Hiking Trails

Exploring Prince Albert National Park by hitting the hiking trails is one of the best ways to experience the beauty of park. With over 150 kilometers of trails to explore, you’ll have no shortage of options for all skill levels. Whether you’re looking for a leisurely stroll through the forest, a more challenging trek up to a scenic viewpoint, or an over nighter you’ll find it all here. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for wildlife along the way – you never know what you might encounter!

Wildlife Viewing

Speaking of wildlife, we have enjoyed seeing the diverse array of animals, including moose, elk, deer, and bears in the park, so be sure to bring your camera to capture some unforgettable moments. Just remember to keep a safe distance and respect the animals’ natural habitat. We are visiting their home.

Canoeing, Stand Up Paddle Boarding & Kayaking

For those who love to be out on the water, Prince Albert National Park offers excellent canoeing and kayaking opportunities on its pristine lakes and rivers. Paddle your way through crystal-clear waters, surrounded by lush forests and towering cliffs. Whether you’re a seasoned paddler or a novice, there are plenty of routes to choose from, each offering its own unique scenery and wildlife sightings. Keep posted as we will write a blog about our favourite places to paddle.

If you do not have any watercraft, no worries, as you can rent them from the Waskesiu Marina and from the Grey Owl Center.

Fishing

If you’re a fishing enthusiast, you’ll appreciate the fishing opportunities in Prince Albert National Park. Our favourite is Crean Lake. Whether you’re after trophy-sized northern pike, walleye, or trout, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to reel in the big one. Just be sure to check the fishing regulations and obtain a national park valid fishing license before casting your line. Sorry, but your provincial fishing license is not valid in the park.

Boat rentals are available from the Waskesiu Marina.

Boating

If you are the wakeboard, waterski, tube or foil enthusiast Waskesiu Lake is a great place as it is never crowded and there is always somewhere to enjoy the lake if it is windy. There are two marina’s at Waskesiu Lake and one at the Hanging Heart Lake. Personally, we tend to fish in the Heart Lakes that connect to Crean Lake. For tubing and wake boarding we prefer Waskesiu Lake as we can take a break and anchor off the main beach to get some snacks and coffee in the Waskesiu townsite. Murphy Bay is our favourite place to anchor down and walk around visiting other boters in the shallow sandy bay. Peighton Beach is also a great place to anchor down and have a BBQ.

In conclusion, Prince Albert National Park is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to experience the great outdoors in Saskatchewan. From hiking and wildlife viewing to canoeing and fishing, there is no shortage of activities to keep you entertained. So why wait?
