Our Cozy May Long Weekend at Elk Ridge

Our May Long weekend at Elk Ridge was a memorable escape, filled with unexpected adventures and cozy moments. While the cool weather kept us from our usual fishing and water sports, we discovered that there is always something fun to do in this beautiful setting. Joined by our adult children, we embraced new activities and made the most of our time together. Here’s a glimpse into our May long weekend at Elk Ridge.

Embracing the Rodeo: 8 Seconds At the Ridge

One of the highlights was attending the “8 Seconds At the Ridge” rodeo, part of the PBR circuit. Despite the chilly weather, Elk Ridge transformed a parking lot into a vibrant rodeo ground with stands, beer gardens, an announcer, and a big screen for replays. The turnout was impressive, and it was a fun western atmosphere.

Golfing Adventures at Elk Ridge

In addition to the rodeo, we kept busy with plenty of activities. Twice we played 18 holes of disc golf at Tree-O-Six, challenging our skills and providing lots of laughs. We also enjoyed three rounds of regular golf at Elk Ridge. The greens were in excellent condition for this time of year and they had new carts, making our games both enjoyable and competitive.

Exploring Scenic Trails

For some nature exploration, we took in the Lynx and Wolf trails. Seeking more adventure, two of us biked the Boreal Trail. The ride was muddy and we finished it in under an hour.

Venturing to Waskesiu

When we felt like venturing out, we drove to nearby Waskesiu. We visited the interpretative centre, which had impressive updates since our last visit. It’s engaging for all ages and a worthwhile stop. We also strolled through charming stores like Outter Limits, LakeLife, and Black Spruce Gallery.

Dining & Treats in Waskesiu

We hoped to dine at Happy Camper, known for its good food at reasonable prices, but it was closed. Instead, we enjoyed delicious pizza at Pizza Pete’s. The next day, we returned to Waskesiu for a mid-afternoon treat, grabbed coffee from Evrgreen and indulged in ice cream from the Big Olaf. Both spots are perennial favorites, and though there were lines, the wait was worth it.

Relaxing Back at the Cottage

Back at our cozy cottage, we enjoyed playing games, cooking delicious meals, watching movies, and relaxing by the fireplace. Despite the cool weather, the time spent indoors was warm and filled with laughter and bonding.

Anticipating the Summer Ahead

This May long weekend reminded us that Elk Ridge offers plenty to enjoy, no matter the weather. We’re eagerly looking forward to the rest of the summer, ready to dive into more activities and share our cottage with our guests.
